London Fashion Week

It has been ways to long since I've made a blog post but with the start of my final year at college and London Fashion Week, I've had absolutely no free time.
Since Thursday I've been volunteering as a dresser with Fashion Scout, an organization which showcases new design talent all around the world.
Working backstage at a show is extremely different to watching a show and you would not believe the amount of prep, panic and general craziness that goes on before and during the show. Even though it's quite an intense environment, the past few days have been such an incredible experience, and I've got loads of backstage pictures of the clothes, models and everything else that's been going on.

One of the shows that I managed to see was Nasir Mazhar. The collection was a wonderful mix of national tribal dressing, fetish wear and sportswear. The Nasir Mazhar girl is rebellious, sexy and ethnic.

Their shoes are gorgeous!

One of the best things about working at fashion week is that I got a ton of free make up :D

That's pretty much a summary of my past three days and as you can probably see it's been hectic. I'm exhausted, my feet hurt and I've barely had any sleep but it's also been the most amazing experience and I cannot wait till February for the next fashion week!

5 things to do before Summer Ends

"

Here in London we've pretty much had non stop rain for the past 3 days but I'm still hoping for just a few more days of sunshine before I officially say hello to winter. So here are 5 things I will certainly be doing if the sun ever decides to come out.

1. Have a picnic
The last time I had a picnic it was for my 7th birthday party and the theme was teddy bear picnic. All of my friends brought their favourite teddy bear and we all ate sandwiches and finger food in the park. Ever since I've desparately wanted to do it again but I'm not sure my friends would be so up for bringing a cuddly toy...

2. Go to the beach
Even though I've been to the beach twice this summer, I really want to go again. If you can't go out of the country then you absolutely MUST go to Brighton. Although it only has a pebble beach the water is lovely, there are amazing places to shop and the beach front scenery is beautiful!

3. Make ice lollies
When I was younger making ice lollies during summer was a ritual. I've had loads over the
past few weeks but nothing beats the feeling of creating your own flavours and enjoying the frozen
delight while reading a magazine in your garden.

4. Go to a Lido
Lido is the Italian word for beach but here in England it is an outdoor public swimming pool. The perfect mix of beach breezes and swimming pool fun, Lido is a great place to simply hang out with friends.

5. Wear sandals
This may seem like a silly one but unless you're a fan of socks and sandals it'll be almost impossible to wear them in a few weeks so I might as well wear sandals as often as possible while I can.

What are some things you want to do before summer is over?

Makeup Inspiration

I've never really been that interested in makeup, I usually just wear foundation, blusher, mascara and maybe some eyeliner. I'm always saving images like this onto my phone so I thought I'd gather them together and do a makeup inspiration post. They're all such different looks but I love them all, I think my favourite is the one of elle fanning or the last one with just a sweep of black eyeshadow.

The Jean Paul Gaultier Exhibition

On Thursday I went to the Gaultier exhibition at the Barbican. Although me and my friend spent ages walking around London trying to using google maps to find our way there,we finally found the Barbican and it was definitely work the sore feet. The exhibition closes on August 25th (next week!) so of you're able to make it it's only £14.50 for a standard ticket and £9 for students.
I took loads of photos around London and at the exhibition so here are a few of them.

My wonderful new trainers are from Just Fab, an online shoe shop which you must all absolutely check out because at the moment you can buy your first pair of shoes for 75% off. All of their shoes cost £35 and with the 75% off that makes all of their shoes and amazing £9!!! These trainers I bought literally feel like clouds... With it a wore a white jersey dress that a made recently which gives the outfit a sporty chic kind of look.

Weekend Sketches

After a busy two weeks, I took this weekend just to relax at home and do some sketching and sewing. From Wednesday to Friday I did a design and make your own garment workshop at the Victoria and Albert museum. Although I'm not completely happy with the outcome I learnt a lot about draping fabric and pattern making.

I took some inspiration from the shape of this dress and made a new dress yesterday. It was just a trial as I was testing out a pattern I'd made but I really like how it's turned out. I'm going to change the pattern where it needs to be altered and make another dress probably out of navy or maybe dark grey jersey.

These are just some quick sketches I've done over the past few days.

Wish List!

Once against there are tons of clothes that I can't afford but am desparately lusting after. I've been applying to tons of jobs recently so hopefully my reign of being Queen Poor will soon be over and I'll be able to buy everything my heart desires. Until then, here are something's I'd love to have in my wardrobe.
Jumper/white dress/culottes/green dress/rucksack/sandals

Lately I've been wearing a lot of black, my mums keeps jokingly calling me a goth, so what if I am? I just like black it's such an easy colour to wear and when all your clothes are black everything goes :p As Ann Demeulemeester once said..
"Black is not sad. Bright colours are what depresses me. They're so... Empty. Black is poetic. How do you imagine a poet? In a bright yellow jacket? Probably not?

I'll probably want to wear bright colours again soon but until then "I'll stop wearing black when they make a darker colour"

Oh and how sassy is that nail emoji bag! I'll stop wearing all black if someone buys me it :p

Summertime!

Oh my goodness, I cannot believe how long it's been since I made a new blog post! My summer literally just started a week ago and I've already been so busy.
Last Thursday I started an internship with an amazing designer called Yulia Kondranina. She graduates from central saint martins (the university I'm hoping to go to soon) with a masters in womenswear fashion design.

Her clothes are amazing and you absolutely must check out her website by clicking here. So far it's been an awesome experience, see how the team works together, helping to make the clothes and seeing the end result of a collection, sending the clothes off to buyers. It's been stressful but really good at the same time. In a few weeks we'll be starting Yulia's new collection which I'm so excited for because I'll get to see the whole design process from start to finish working with a real designer. Yay!
Next week I'm doing a 3 day 'Design and Make your own Garment' workshop at the V&A. They have loads of fashion based workshops going on through August including Fashion Photography, Fashion Illustration and Makeup and more; with prices starting from £10 I'd definitely reccomend checking what's on offer if you live in London.
I'll definitely try to update more often but for now,
Lots of love,
Tiana x
