I recently discovered Ami Sioux, photographer and musician, and I was instantly drawn to her work. Her photos almost demand your attention using contrasting values, lights and unusual angles to capture your focus.

This definitely one of my favourites of her photographs. I love the contrast between the white window and the dark room that frames the image but then how the window illuminates the man's face. |
Ami Sioux grew up in California. Her parents were Jehovah Witness's so quite strict about her extra-curricular activities. At 15 Sioux became interested in photography and when she was 16, she left home and moved to New York. Inspired by youth culture in early 90s New York, Sioux did a series of portraits of her friends as they showed her their cure for hiccups.
After travelling around Europe for a few years, Ami Sioux settled down in Paris in 2003 and now commutes between there and Los Angeles. Since then her work has been featured in i-D Magazine, French Vogue, Dazed and Confused and several other publications.
