The Last Great Adventure is You

As soon as my friend and I entered the vast, white space of White Cube and saw the glowing words 'The Last Great Adventure is You' we were in awe of Tracey Emin. Starting with a sequence of blue gouache nudes, the paintings seemed spontaneous, almost like a warm up exercise. As most of Emin's work, they are all self portraits, personal, and tell of story of how she came to realise that the 'you' she was talking about is in fact herself. 

Moving in to the next room, we were faced with what looked like the same paintings but on a much larger scale. After closer inspection we saw that they were actually embroidered, so cleverly stitched by Tracey Emin that's from a far they looked like paintings.

In the third and final room we were immersed in Tracey's world. Uncensored paintings of sex scenes, bronze sculptures of her body, others of birds and lions, neon lights telling us 'The Soul Will Always Do What It Needs To Do'.

In all of the work on show, faces are left blank and through the use of colour and line, Emin's shows us that the human figure can be just as expressive as the face, if not more. The rough, unfinished lines evoke passion, pain, isolation...

Your Absence Only Makes me Love You More

Thought provoking, enticing and engaging, I highly recommend this exhibition to anyone who has the chance to visit.

Weekend Sketches

After a busy two weeks, I took this weekend just to relax at home and do some sketching and sewing. From Wednesday to Friday I did a design and make your own garment workshop at the Victoria and Albert museum. Although I'm not completely happy with the outcome I learnt a lot about draping fabric and pattern making.

I took some inspiration from the shape of this dress and made a new dress yesterday. It was just a trial as I was testing out a pattern I'd made but I really like how it's turned out. I'm going to change the pattern where it needs to be altered and make another dress probably out of navy or maybe dark grey jersey.

An interview with Lucas David

Lucas David is one of my favourite artists so when he agreed to do an interview with me I was ecstatic. With Sky Ferreira and Frances Bean Cobain among his fan group, David's popularity is growing every day and I can't wait to see his career develop!

1. Have you always been passionate about art and drawing?

- I drew since age 5 and then when i was like 14 started drawing woman, nude woman and all my demonds coming thru woman, the truth is that i dont post my nude womans on the internet , just the punk rock girls or pop sensations. but i think i've never been like passionate on my work more than  the past few days

 -yeah i love apollonia saintclair work,her work is super amazing

-it's the only thing im good at/ the only public that receives me, haha

 -rock and roll and 90's  music/fashion

 -yea i like making music i play with my besties sometimes and we compose music, i used to have a band but now it's just like acoustic sessions, but that's all honestly all my work comes along with music. make  music is my real passion honestly, i want to be a rock and roll star!

Central Saint Martins Foundation Show

Yesterday I went to the Central Saint Martins Foundation show and I was absolutely amazed by the creative, original, high quality work that I saw.

This piece was a part of a triptych all drawn with charcoal. From experience I know how difficult charcoal can be to use and the amount of detail and accuracy in this piece is absolutely incredible.  

This drawing was absolutely humongous. I can't even begin to imagine how long it must have taken to do.

These hanging horses made out of chicken wire I think, were definitely one of my favourite pieces I saw that day.

No picture could do the detail in this piece justice. The effort and time it must have taken to complete, just wow.

I don't know what it is but there's something about this photo that is really intriguing. 

 There was also a section for the fashion students but unfortunately you're not allowed to take pictures in there. The clothes were so unique and different, I felt so inspired and visiting only made me want to study at Central Saint Martins even more.

Spring Trends

It's almost spring and it still hasn't snowed... I remember when people were spreading the implausible idea that we were going to have 100 days of snow and now its the end of Winter and we didn't even get 1 day of snow in London.
Since spring is almost upon us, I thought I'd do a quick recap of the trends that we saw on the runway in September and some affordable alternatives to the designer clothes. Please don't take this list as a complete guide on what you have to wear in the next few months; think of it more as a few points of inspiration rather than me or the runway telling you what you must wear.

1. Pop art
This is a great way to get some really bright, bold colours into your wardrobe, even Anna Wintour is trying out the look
